Folio Photonics Founder, Dr. Kenneth D. Singer, to Present “High Capacity Optical Data Storage for Active Archives” at SPIE Photonics West

Travis Johnston  |  January 17th, 2023

Folio Photonics®, today announced Dr. Kenneth D. Singer, Founder and Chief Innovation Officer, will present “High capacity optical data storage for active archives” at next week’s SPIE Photonics West, taking place January 28 - February 2, 2023, at the Moscone Center (San Francisco, CA).

Presentation Date and Time: February 1, 2023, 9:00 am - 9:25 am Pacific Time

Where: Moscone Center, Room 2020 (Level 2 West)

Presented by: Dr. Kenneth D. Singer, Founder and Chief Innovation Officer of Folio Photonics Inc.

Presentation abstract: Multi-layer optical data storage is a promising approach for realizing terabyte-capacity media for applications in enterprise archival data storage. Dr. Singer will report on Folio Photonics' highly scalable roll-to-roll co-extrusion manufacturing process for producing multi-layer films with nanoscale active layers with easy fabrication into optical discs. Dr. Singer will detail the optical pickup unit for dynamic testing at commercial speeds, as well as the results on writing and reading an eight-layer disc. Tests indicate that Folio Photonics’ materials are capable of high-fidelity recording with low, commercial-appropriate media noise. Prospects for commercialization of the technology for long-lived active-archive applications will also be explained.
